WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Monuments

The fort of Darbhanga Raj, Rambag Palace, Nargauna Palace and the two palatial buildings donated by the Darbhanga Raj for housing the offices of L. N. Mithila University and Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University are worth seeing.The wall surrounding the Raj fort is 200 ft. high.

Religious Places

There's a Goddess Shyama Temple,which is built on the pyre of Maharaja dhiraj Rameshwar Singh. The temple houses a statue of Goddess Kali,which was built in Jaipur of stones imported from France. There's also a Goddess Kankali Temple built of Italian marbles and French stones.

Baba Kusheshwar Dham

Baba Kusheshwar Dham
Some 60 km from the district HQ, Baba Kusheshwar Dham has a temple of Lord Shiva, revered locally as Lord Kusheshwar. Thousands of devotees visit the temple throughout the year.



Ahilya Sthan

It is a tourist place in village Ahiyari under the Jale block of this district, 20 km from Darbhanga town. The legend has it that Ahilyawas great saint Gautam's wife. She was cursed to become a stone statue, but was brought back to life after Lord Rama,who happened to pass through the village, touched the statue.

Boating

There are three big ponds in the area Harahi,Dighi and Gangasagar. Harahi and Dighi, having boating facilities, are major tourist attractions.

FAIRS& FESTIVALS

Madhushrawni

Newly-wed women in their first matrimonial year observe this festival in the sacred month of Sawan (July-August). They also pray for long life of their husbands.

Kojagra

It is celebrated in the house of newly-wed men on the full-moon day in Ashwin (September- October) month

Indra Puja

Indra, the mythical king of gods and controller of - clouds, is worshipped for five days in the middle of September and prayers are offered for rain. An Indra Bhawan, constructed by Maharaja Rameshwar Singh, is located in the local Raj ground, where the rain god is worshipped every year.

Jat-Jatin

This traditional festival is celebrated by local women folk when there is scarcity of rain. Sometimes rail follows the dancing, singing and praying.
